Portraits

One of the hardest things to paint is human faces. Capturing the essential something that makes a person is an endless challenge. I love to study people, and to try to bring at least something of their beauty, wonder and joy to the canvas

Gentleman Traveller

My neighbour and friend of thirty five years, always ready with that special smile for all the locals in this small town, to help, to mend and fix.
This portrait hangs in his house; of course.

Self Sketch 1

Oil on canvas
40cm x 32cm

A self-portrait: the only sitting where the model has no excuse to leave. She, who notices details, finally turned the gaze on herself, and brought a smile.

Self Sketch 2

Watercolour on Arches paper
42cm x 30cm

Such concentrated scrutiny. Though I did spend some time looking at my sketch and palette.
